Getting Lost - Episode 2.20 “Two for the Road”

Posted May 4, 2006 at 11:56 am by Spamalot

analucia dougWell Lostheads, I guess you could say Michael’s back.

Good to have you back buddy! NOW, if you could just stop killing unarmed women and freeing murderous cult-members, maybe we’d like you a whole lot more. (Oh, BTW, Spoiler Warning, WOOPS!)

I’m too emotionally damaged after that episode to properly recap it… But I’ll try anyway. Here goes nothing!

  • Ana Lucia was Jack’s father’s bodyguard in Australia while running from her Mom, who knew she murdered the guy who shot her.
  • Jack’s father has a daughter with another woman in Australia. He was yelling something about wanting to see his daughter and that “He pays the mortgage on that house”
  • When Oceanic Flight 815 went down, Ana Lucia was on her way back
home from Australia after ‘fessing up to mommy about her crime
  • The prisoner tells Ana Lucia something about how Goodwin thought she was redeemable. (Whatever that means to crazy murderous cultists)
  • Seconds before Michael kills her, Ana Lucia has a sort of redemption (She decides not to kill the prisoner). Libby witnesses the whole thing, and is rewarded with a hot bullet or two.
  • The prisoner told Locke that when he was caught he was on a mission to rescue him because he’s “good”. It’s unconfirmed whether this is true or not.
  • Ana Lucia and Sawyer did “the hibbidy dibbidy”

My Two cents:

  • Mike is either brainwashed or was offered a deal to kill Ana (and possibly other threats to dharma), free “Henry Gale”, and spy for Dharma. IMO he looked too conflicted about the whole thing to be brainwashed. I always knew that Michael didn’t care about anybody but himself and his son, but I never knew it would go this far! Whatever. He’s got major pwnage coming his way for his sins. Squat Walt too, I never liked that little booger.
  • Could my theory about Jack’s dad being behind the whole thing actually be true? We’re finding out a whole lot about him lately and he’s been dead since episode 1. It’s also noticeable that Jack never actually touched the body while IDing his father at the morgue. I think he’s still alive and is in on the whole thing, if not the leader. He might even be Alvar Hanso himself.
  • I guess horror movie rules apply on the island. If you’re single, and you have sex, you get killed almost immediately! Ana Lucia and Shannon both got pwned shortly after hooking up. It’s also notable that If you see anybody’s storyline getting wrapped up a little too well or if they experience any sort of redemption… they’re next. I knew Ana was going to be killed as soon as she spared the prisoner. I just had no idea it was going to happen so soon!

Im still kind of sick to my stomach about the whole thing with Michael. I guess you know a show is good when It gets in your guts like this, right!

Wait, Hanso? What? I saw the commercial but I thought it was just a regular commercial. What’s the deal with Hanso?

Yeah man you might have been right with Jack’s dad. He’s crazy, at the end of his rope, has NOTHING to lose that he hasn’t lost already.

I had a thought…maybe the title Lost has nothing to do with the fact that they are on a deserted island. They are obviously not “lost” since people know where they are. But rather, perhaps Lost means all the loss these people are experiencing in their lives, both on and off the island.

Michael, yeah that was nuts. I think Michael was captured, told to kill Ana Lucia (who killed two of the Others in cold blood, and the Others obviously know about it because Henry mentioned it) and ensure Henry is returned in exchange for Walt. Though as Henry said last week, it’s unlikely they will give up Walt.

Libby just got caught out there for being a dummy. Side point, while an article on CNN said today that Libby and Ana Lucia getting taken out of the show had nothing to do with their recent drunk driving arrests in Hawaii, I think that’s bulldunkie. I think they, in a pretty well done manner, took out both these actresses who messed up in RL. Didn’t that happen early in Season 1? Didn’t someone else mess up in RL and they got written out of the series?

So yeah, the Others being “weak”, that’s a lie. I think they either made Michael say that or they made it look like they were weak. There’s more of them than the Oceanic survivors, and they are obviously in better shape (Ethan pwning Jack) and they are obviously with Dharma (still my opinion, though the fact that Ethan is an Other AND was shown being a Dharma doctor is undeniable) and they are better armed.

It’s all adding up to what I said earlier…the island is an experiement in human behavior. But the twist is…these test subjects are entirely expendable. They don’t care of the Oceanic flight survivors live or die. They throw variables into the mix and they study what happens.

In this case, they threw Michael in. Would they return Henry as they should? Would they harm Henry? Would they raise up an army as they said? What would they do? Libby was a sideeffect of this current experiement.

Hey, in the future, don’t draw attention to yoruself when someone just killed a person with a gun. And certainly don’t shield yourself with a pillow, thanks.

Yeah man, have immoral sex and you get pwnd. Just like they said in Scream. Sun doesn’t count because she slept with her husband. OR DID SHE!? Marco made some points that might show she actually cheated on her husband with the bald english speaking AZN.

Love the pic, btw lol. BOOM, WOMB SHOT!

Alvar Hanso is the owner of the Hanso Foundation. They are the money behind the Dharma Initiative. Wikipedia search Hanso Foundation and you find all the deets. That phone number is like a viral marketing phone game. Here’s a post on it.

This archive of hansofoundation.org also has some cool easter eggs on it.

As for Michael saying the others are weak, why didn’t Kate and Jack call him out on that. Kate saw that their whole savages act was fake. Maybe she’ll figure it out next week.

  3. HeatGuyJ Says:

i too was taken aback by Michael’s actions. it hurt me for real.

    “how could you Michael?”

my theory is that Michael made a deal to free the prisoner and he didn’t mean to kill anyone (this what i want to believe). i didn’t feel he was brainwashed cuz he seemed to feel terrible about doing it. and when they found him in the woods, he seemed to be a little beat up, more so than if he was just out there “roughing” it. and his story about the others was kinda wack to me. i knew something was wrong when he described them as being barely armed when we know they got all kinds of weapons. they blasted his boat with a makeshift bomb. just seemed like a setup. he probably would have shot anyone who was guarding the prisoner. and poor Libby, she didn’t need to go out like that. 2 to the gut. i am wondering if both of them died tho. in the preview for next week you hear someone say, “she’s dead”. if Libby and Ana were both dead, wouldn’t it be “they’re dead”?

this whole idea about the “good ones” is bugging me. what makes someone good? if anything i can see how they think Locke is a good guy, but what about being a liar? he hasn’t been truthful with anyone there.

  4. Solid Snake Says:

I’m just FULLY shocked by this.

It’s suppose it’s kinda possible Michael was captured by the others as he was approaching their installation, was DRUGGED by them [he DID say, when he woke up, that his head hurt] and given a proposition: We’ll give you Walt, if you scratch off Anna [revenge for killing goodwin?] and let Henry go. Although I think chances are Anna was just in the way of what Michael had to do. Same with Libby. Can’t leave witnesses.
NOW Michael’s going to fake like Henry shot everyone in the hatch and bailed.

Motive? I think there was either a proposition [mentioned above] or MAYBE [i'm leaning toward this idea] a revelation by Michael. He probably saw that the Hanso people are fully stocked and loaded for anything. They’ve got tech, guns, facilities, resources. Maybe he saw that the Hanso folk are just a bunch of perverse scientists that don’t mind experimenting and hurting people who are “bad.” They do what they can to seperate the “good” from the “bad,” snatching Walt, snatching a bunch of tailies, attempting to snatch Locke. Even making a list that was alluded to early in the season. Maybe they showed Michael that Walt is fine and in good hands. Maybe even let ‘em have a lil nappy-headed reunion. With this the Hansos might have completely turned Michael away from those “bad” crash suvivors on the beach. And even if they didn’t totally convince him, they’d still be his best bet. And like someone said above: Michael doesn’t care about anyone but himself and his boy. We’ll get a Michael flashback soon detailing what happened while he was gone, ala Claire. Should be great.

I think we’ll find out I’m right. Or on the right track. As for how it plays out exactly? I can never peg it. Ever. It’s just good TV, guys.

  5. Wiggy Says:

I have good reason to believe that Jin is not Sun’s baby’s fadda. I think it belongs to her english teacher a.k.a. Howie Chan-del. Deal or no deal? We know what Sun chose.

The evidence? Well….in the final ep of season 1, there’s a scene where Sun is chowing down on some airport food with great ferocity. Kinda standard for a woman in the early phase of her pregnancy. Keep in mind also that Sun was very close to leaving Jin, if it wasn’t for that lil’ flower he brought. That shows the relationship wasn’t strong, so she might have gotten down with Chan-del. It’s just a theory of mine that i’m throwing out there.

Libby? complete n00b. Don’t you know you’re suppost to strafe when going into a fire fight. you never jump in front of the gun…especially with a pillow. Same goes for Ana-Lucia….who i still think is a d00d.

I still think Sawyer is the man….even after Tronsta pointed out that he’s gotten pwned by most people on the island. Hurley even got a piece of him!

I’m starting to believe that jack’s dad is involved in some way with Dharma. He has been showing up in alot of people’s flashbacks recently. On the flashback tip….what’s up with jack’s dad opening his car and hitting Sawyer? Do the writers think we’re stupid? Did they expect us to jump out of our seats and scream “Oh man…THAT WAS SAWYER!”? I dunno. I thought it was forced as well as unnecessary. Unless you guys realized something I didn’t.

i’m not particularly fond of Libby but I am curious as to her background. Why was she in Australia? Did the island make her sane? Was she there to see the faith healer that Rose saw too? Is she stalking Hurley? Does she have a vendetta against Hurley because one of the people he killed may have been related to her? I need answers. I don’t think she’s dead. Ana? Definitely. Maybe Libby is in a coma or something. In any case, she better start spitting answers before she bites the big one. Seriously. If Hurley’s a necrophiliac, then he just hit the jackpot.

Great ep. Definitely one for the books. I have a theory about how the season is going to end. Jack, after just engaging the Others, runs and stumbles into a room. Out of the darkness, you hear a voice say “Hello….my son.”

    BOOM!

    LOST

  6. Spamalot Says:

Today somebody at work pointed out to me that the woman Jack’s Dad was fighting with, was Claire’s Mom!

If that’s true, than Jack and Claire are half brother and sister, and little Aaron is his nephew.

    Das weird…

As for the thing with Sawyer, that was in his episode about him killing the guy who he thought destroyed his family. He bumps into a door, but you don’t see who it is in the car. They’re just trying to show you how closely everything was occuring. I was amused.

I think HeatguyJ is being a too optimistic about michael. A regular guy doesn’t kill like that without crazy motivation.

Wiggy has very interesting theories about Libby. And if the season ends like Wiggy said it would, I would be a happy man…

However, I would be even more happy if it ended with Jack finding a Master Chief suit and rocket launcher in the hatch and going to work on michael. LOL

  7. Spamalot Says:

    (Howie Chandel ROFLOL)

BTW, For those who were wondering, that other person in the post image is FPS doug from PurePwnage.com, but if you’re a gamer dork like me, than you knew that already.

  8. debraohara Says:

This was the most shocking episode of TV I’ve EVER seen. I definately think that the Others had Michael as their prisoner and when Jack was standing there screaming for them to make a trade, they were smart and took their time and thought about it and made a deal where Michael would infiltrate and take care of things — again giving them an upper hand so the survivors don’t even know a trade took place. As Locke said it was awfully coincidental that Michael came out of the island at just that spot and at just that time.

As for Henry…who says he freed him…Henry said if his people came for him they would kill him. Maybe that is part of Michael’s job too.

Most of you probably already realized this, but as I’m thinking about how Locke is a “good one” I realized where “Goodwin” got his name. So clever…and as Marcus taught me “Ethan Rom” rearranged is Other Man.

  9. tronsta Says:

    Deb! :)

Howie Chan-del lol good one, Wiggles.

I totally missed where Hanso was ever even introduced to the show. When was that?

Libby getting healed by the island, could be, yeah. But that wouldn’t explain Hurley and his delusions of Dave. In fact it would refute it.

Nappy headed reunion. I’m half offended at that lol.

The bad vs the good…in many worldly opinions, lying does not make someone bad. In most opinions, lying is a necessary aspect of life, and guys like Jack and girls like Ana Lucia make the need to lie to them very very vital. Locke is straight up good, he never gets angry, he bides his time, and he has had probably the WORST life before coming to the island out of all the other people. He’s lied, yeah, but only because he had to, because of nosey people in his business. But he is one of the good ones, and trying to steal away the good ones? That’s an interesting concept.

By the way, a word on the Others physical prowess. Ana Lucia is no slouch, and Henry, after a week of sitting on conrete, eating barely anything, and getting shot through the shoulder with a rusty arrow, being tortured, and beaing repeatedly beat up, still was strong enough to kill Ana Lucia where it not for the BOOM CRUTCH SHOT! The Others are hardcore, like military grade hardcore. I think Brian is right about the Dharma/Hanso people, they are well funded and have the right gear.

But when it comes down to it, how can anyone really be called BAD on this island? Since they came, people have been attacked by “monsters”, people have been kidnapped, etc. I’m not saying I would have killed someone like Ana Lucia, but I’d be paranoid too, maybe paranoid enough to defend myself with deadly force if need be. But that is still interesting, they defining who is good and who is bad.

  10. Solid Snake Says:

Remaining season rundown: Eko, Michael, Desmond+Various Losties.

The Sawyer “I’m walking here” thing isn’t random. If we remember from Season 1, Sawyer ran into Jack’s dad at that bar. They had some drinks and chatted. The facial hair and overall soused old doctor look is consistant in both episodes. Sawyer told Jack about the encounter. I think Jack’s dad is definitely part of Dharma somehow.

Good call on the Jack’s dad/Claire dealy. That’s an almost sure bet.

I happen to think Sun did NOT cheat on Jin. I think she feels funny about falling for Bald AZN, but they didn’t have a sake soaked sleep-over or anything.

As for Libby. She’s not dead. It looked like a lot of blood ran down, but that was the wine for Hurley. She’ll be in a coma til the last or maybe second to last episode where she finally fingers Michael as the shooter. She’s got wayyy to much story for her to be dead. Her connection to Hurley and maybe Desmond. If she dies — it better be early next season after one of her flashbacks.

  11. Spamalot Says:

Watch the orientation video again. You’ll see Alvar Hanso standing in a building, and they introduce him.

As for the Other’s and their Good/Bad stuff:

The obvious flaw in the Other’s opinion of Bad vs. Good:

    - They are led by one man who has brainwashed them into believing his own brand of bad and good, and that it’s okay for them to kill bad people, without any sort of legal system or justice. It’s obviously okay for them to kill each other if they fail too. They’re morality is that of a murderous cult, like Heavens Gate, except they kill other people instead of themselves

The NOT SO obvious flaw in their opinion of Bad vs. Good:

    - Darhma has a frightening ability to know things about people. They definitely have major funding, major surveillance, and illegal access to governernment records, I believe that they might also see whatever that smoke monster sees, so it is not just a weapon, but also a camera system for them (Albeit one that they’ve lost control over, but that’s another post)

However, They DO NOT SEE EVERYTHING. So despite their overconfidence in their opinions of people, they don’t know the bad everyone has done.

I don’t believe for a second that Locke is 100% good. I believe that Dharma JUST DOESN’T KNOW WHAT HE’S DONE. And neither do we, because it hasn’t been revealed to us yet. We don’t even know how his legs got 0wned or where he learned his L337 hunting and survival skills. (Remember, when his Dad took him hunting, it was his first time)

If you go back to season 1, there’s tons of references to light and dark with Locke’s character. (for example, Claire has a dream about him with one white eye and one black eye) Locke might even have multiple personalities, one of which is a killer. Somebody sick him on michael, please! Then let Locke be Walt’s Daddy, he treats him better anyway! LOL

  12. tronsta Says:

Locke has done nothing so far to warrant him being labeled bad. Everyone makes mistakes but he’s done nothing majorly wrong yet.

So Sawyer and Jack’s dad spoke in that bar that Ana Lucia left him at, eh?

  13. Wiggy Says:

I think we need to watch the first season over again. Alot of things from the second season make sense after watching the first one.

Watching the season 1 eps with Cara and Rog helps me to remember just how intertwined each character’s stories are with one another. Crazy stuff.

Yeah, Jack’s dad and Sawyer spoke in that bar. That’s how Sawyer knew Jack’s dad was sorry for what he did….which Sawyer later revealed to Jack before sailing out on Michael’s boat in the season 1 finale. It was that act that redeemed Sawyer.

I dunno if that was wine. Did someone TiVo that? I thought Hurley was suppost to get the wine and Libby was gonna get the blankets? Indecisive wench.

  14. Spamalot Says:

Hey tronsta, remember, before wednesday, Michael had never done anything that would warrant him being called bad. LOL. Such is “lost”

BTW, I can’t wait till season 2 comes out on DVD and we can watch the whole progression. Allot has happened.

Funny, as of not long ago, I thought that “Dark Charlie” was the next to go. I was wrong.

Also, I guess Charlie looks like a saint now, compared to mike.

  15. tronsta Says:

    Charlie ain’t nothin’ but a crooked-jaw hobbit

  16. Lupinus Says:

Just one little thought I’d like to throw out there with regards to it being jin’s baby or not. The island seems to have an uncanny ability to heal people so why not him as well. I got the impression that it happened after they were on the island though I could very easily be mistaken. Just a thought.
