As much as I hate to admit it because my girlfriend talks smack to me about Lost every day, 24 is probably the best action/drama show ever put on TV. I’ve never watched a show that has held my attention so strongly from start to finish, AND hasn’t required me to watch three or four whole seasons before hand for me to appreciate what is going on. I’m so hooked, and as much as I love Lost, 24 provides what Lost kind of leaves, well, lost, for me.
So last night, Ub3r 5qattx0r Jack Bauer, who as we all know is the sole reason for every single one of us waking up alive in each morning, brought intensity to a new high. Here’s a few highlights of the 2 hours special:
1) The shot heard round the country. Paul Weller plays a pretty good grizzled yet positive yet terroristic ex-CTU member that Jack himself took down in a whole sure-not-so-sure corruption scandal. Paul Weller’s character is responsible for providing access to the poison gas the terrorists are using on American soil. But this guy is ex-CTU, you ain’t gonna make him talk with torture! You ain’t gonna scare him by shooting him in the leg! So Jack in a moment of omnipotent clarity turns the gun on Paul Weller’s loving wife, shooting her above the knee. I was like OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was so sudden and shocking I couldn’t believe it. But then it would be trumped by his response to his wife…I’m sorry, honey, but I can’t tell him anything. Thankfully, Jack Bauer isn’t a sadist, and takes him into CTU for questioning.
2) Poor little semi-hot computer hacker girl gets PWND by hardened Russian terrorist leader. I’m glad the writers had some class and didn’t make the one black guy go down into the dark corridors of the basement and get stabbed. She got squatted mercilessly. Which brings us to a next highlight…
3) THEY BOMBED CTU!!! The terrorist leader is dead, hooray, but so are 40% of CTU’s staff, not-hooray. That was insane. And poor little Edgar. Of course, that was ironic, he realized he sent that poor girl to her death, and then he returns to find that all the others that survived were safely locked inside a safe room. Chloe has to watch poor chubby Edgar gurgle and choke on his attempts to eat all the cyntox gas before it burns out his throat. Crazy. TOTALLY didn’t expect that.
4) Kim Bauer is a snot-nosed ingrate. Kim, your dad is the TOP RATED AGENT IN THE COUNTRY!!! Can’t you understand that sometimes they have to withold info from you to protect you??? I loved how Chloe knocked Kim off her high horse. You can’t be mad at someone when they almost got killed trying to withold information that would have killed you. I’m slowly becoming a Chloe fan, surprisingly enough. Oh oh oh, and that tool Kim had with her? Back talking to Jack Bauer!?!? You could see it in his eyes, it was taking EVERYTHING he had not to pistol whip that fool in front of Kim and shoot him below the knee for good measure.
5) President Logan is spineless, Vice President What’s-his-name-the-guy-from-Rising-Sun has too much spine, and Mike, the one that SHOULD be president has to play lapdog and psycho-anaylist to everyone in the whitehouse. Mike is pretty awesome, if he was my advisor, and everytime I was about to make a decision and he gave me that slant-eyed expression on his face, I’d just go ahead and do what he says. But stupid Logan keeps ignoring the expression, then bad things happen. Oh oh oh and Aaron lol OMG, Mrs. Logan wants a little Secret Service pie, hahaha. That was nuts.
All in all, it was an unbelievable 2 hours. SOO can’t wait for next week. Discuss!

I missed it too. I had book study and then cake and coffee. I’m sad. I DID hear that someone died kinda terribly. AND that Jack gets his torture on. ANDDD shoots some innocent lady thru her knee. I MAY drop the series and pick up the DVD when it comes out. I watch too many shows lately and I’m stressing a little to hard about this one.
