PS3 Delayed…what are we to do??

Posted March 2, 2006 at 10:29 am by tronsta

ps3One thing you will notice about the GREAT majority of PS2 fans is their unwavering love for the brand. Ever have that friend in high school that wouldn’t buy anything other than Nike sneakers? Or wouldn’t even THINK of touching a Sega Master System over Nintendo?

These kinds of players have a horrible prospect before them…a huge delay in the release of PS3.

The largest chunk of PS2 fans I know blindly follow their brand. Why? Just because. My favorite line from PS2 fans is “PS2 games are better than Xbox games” and when asked what games they play, it usually is “NBA Live, Need for Speed, Madden, etc.” Those aren’t PS2 games, morons, they’re on all systems. And they play better on Xbox.

Anywho, not that I’m trying to stab at PS fans (well, maybe a little) but I’ve been reading a lot about how awfully delayed PS3 is supposed to be. Xmas 2006? Doesn’t look likely, meaning Sony will have TWO Xmas seasons lost to MS. I’m not pro MS, but since I’m not into cute little purple haired anime RPGs, I’m not super excited for PS3. While I’m not SUPER excited about Xbox 360 either, there are certainly more exciting Xbox only titles out, or coming out, for Xbox 360 that catch my eye.

Cause of the delay? Technology rights and standards? Or just flatout caught with their kimono’s down? Either way, like I told a few people early on, all that tech-hype Sony was trying to build over the Cell processor and the like? Don’t believe it until it goes gold, aka gets an official release date. PS3 will NOT blow Xbox 360 out of the water on raw processing power. It might be more powerful, but the difference will not be significant enough to make it the best choice of consoles.

PS fans, do me a favor…just say you love PS because you just love PS. We ain’t tryin’ to compete, you got the largest chunk of the market, be happy and play Metel Gear for the 48th time and go online and play laggy games of NBA Live.

Sony has licensing power, Microsoft has money and processing power, nintendo has nostalgia and innovation. I love them all…

PS3 got scrapped cause of massive hardware failure. They’re stretching too hard to beat 360 and killing themselves in the process.

Metal gear solid 4 is going to be teh hotness.

While I agree with you on Sony’s online being laggy garbage, if you were trying to say that sony games are not innovative by that 48th metal gear comment, bollocks.

Microsofts FPS/Racer/Sports/Millitary re-hash is what could be called non-innovative. Metal Gear is and always has been groundbreaking. WW

Nah I didn’t mean PS wasn’t innovative. What I meant was aside from a few hot titles, how many original games exist for PS2 that isn’t Metal Gear Solid or countless Anime RPG’s? I just get sick of hearing how crappy Xbox is when the majority of PS2 fans I know plan cross-console games.

Re-hash is the great majority of games on all systems. PS1 borrowed heavily from Dreamcast and Nintendo 64, those systems borrowed from SNES and Genesis, those borrowed from NES and Master System, etc.

I think Xbox has a lot more innovation than people give them credit for. Granted, nothing like Guitar Hero, but look at Ninja Gaiden? You could say it’s a re-hash of Prince of Persia, but both games play completely different. How about MechAssault? Taking hardcore mech sim’s and making it into a fast paced arcade sim. Or Project Gotham Racing? Taking hardcore driving sim’s and streamlining it to an arcade sim as well. Project Gotham Racing 2 is still one of the highest played games on Live. Oddworld Strangers Wrath? Completely new game experience. Morrowind? No other RPG plays like it.

I wouldn’t call Anime RPG’s innovative. Guitar Hero, yes, hot, Eyetoy, even though I heard it stinks, yes it’s an innovation. Metal Gear Solid for PSone, yeah that innovated. Shadow of the Colussus, definately. Grand Turismo TECHNICALLY isn’t innovative since there were racing sims for the PC years beforehand. What else has PS done that truly innovated?

I think you’ll find in the upcoming generations of video games, innovation will be less and less original and less and less noticeable.

PS fans = RPG fiends. It’s that simple.

Like I’ve said before, PS is a system that encourages numerous single player experiences. On the flip side, we have X-box. Their friggin’ catch line is “It’s Fun to Play Together”. Or is that another system? I forget.

The future is online gaming. Microsoft realizes it. PS is a day late and a buck short. What about Socom, you say? Lag, mod and cheat city. The price you pay for free online play.

I find it surprising that most of the major 360 games lined up aren’t multiplayer. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Frame City Killer, The Godfather and Gears of War are all single player exclusive.

I love PS, don’t get me wrong. They brought me some of my favorite series. Final Fantasy, Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid. And don’t get me started on Guitar Hero. Even with the dud that 360 turned out to be, it still has more potential to be great based solely on the fact that its online play is flawless. With the exception of Guitar Hero and the eyetoy stuff, PS has based it’s success on sequels.

    I’m tired.

360 will pick up in time, definitely. It just got released too early IMO…

    PSP will too.
