Getting Lost - Episode 2.15 “Maternity Leave”
Posted March 1, 2006 at 10:29 pm by Spamalot
OK, I just watched the best LOST episode of the season and I’m having difficulty getting my mind around all the awesome new bombs that were just dropped. Let me try!
- The whole time Claire was missing she was drugged up and playing pattycake with Ethan, ready to willingly let them take her baby.
- Roseau’s daughter Alex helped Claire escape and told her what was really going to happen to her after she had the baby.
- The Others really aren’t savages, as the locker full of fake beards, theatrical glue, and hats that looked like the one “Bluebeard” was wearing while abducting Walt tell us.
- Mr. Eko seems to know that the prisoner is an Other.
- The shady prisoner is getting to John with his mindfreak ploy. OTHER! OTHER! OTHER!
That is all. DISCUSS!!!

I just finished watching the whole episode….teh awesome! Hands down the best episode of the season IMO.
Let me share my thoughts on Spammy’s observations:
1) Whatever Claire was on, she needs to puff puff pass to the left.
2) Alex! I’m a t00l. I totally thought it was a boy. I remember an episode where someone saw the Others walking by and one of them was carrying a teddy bear. In any case, glad some light was shed on that.
3) The whole theatrical glue and beard thing was kinda cool. All I could ask myself was “Why? Why put on the ploy of being fellow survivors?”
4) Mr. Eko is the man. He managed to do in 5 minutes what Sayid couldn’t. The whole cutting a piece of his beard off was just a scare tactic I guess. It seems to have worked. Did you see the prisoner’s face? Classic.
5) That prisoner is quite wiley. Poor John seems to have fallen for it. Did you see the smerk on the prisoner’s face? He needs to have a mud hole stomped asap.
Can’t wait for the next ep. Is it next week or do we need to wait a month?

Dude,
How would you react if you saw them letting Eko into your cell. I would’ve needed a change.
I would’ve loved to see Eko go to work on Ethan. That would’ve been an awesome match… Finishing with Eko doing his “rock finishing move” and squatting what was left of him.
Eko is the most hardcore on the island. Respect…

Yes indeed, my friends, it was quite an episode. Dunno if it was the best for me, IMO, I personally liked the Sayid episode 2 weeks ago the best so far this season. BUT, either way, it was one of the best.
1) The prisoner, he may be an Other, BUT his little ploy of getting John to get ticked off at Jack? That could EASILY just be a frustrated innocent man trying to escape. Don’t forget he’s been locked up in a cell with a horrible war wound with no shower for 2 days, after being tortured as well. He seems to have an area he was living in by himself, that he could escape to. Although my gut says he is an Other, I can’t help but consider all the possibilities.
2) The Others are now confirmed to be connected to Dharma. Which, as it would seem, means that Dharma is in complete control of the island. This is making it seem more and more like the whole island is an experiment, or a bunch of experiments. I’m starting to rethink my whole theory on Zeke and his tribe being with the Others. At first , I thought they were seperate. But these are the reasons that are making me think they are all on the same side…
a - The fake beards and clothes in the lockers in the Dharma facility seem to look like Zeke and his clan’s getups.
b - When Claire was being pushed to safety out in the woods after she had already spent her time at Dharma, you see tribal looking people shouting her name weilding torches, just like the ones we saw when Jack and Kate and Sawyer went after Michael.
c - The tribe, who took Walt, OBVIOUSLY has technology somewhere since Walt was able to talk to Michael through the PC. Some might argue that this is simply Walt’s special “power” but until we know more about that, I think it’s safe to say the tribe has technology. Also they had a real boat and guns.
d - The tribe also is into stealing people, just like the Others.
e - When Jack mentioned Ethan’s name, Zeke acted like he knew who Ethan was.
3 - The opening of plotlines/holes vs the closing of plotlines/holes. I’m worried that Lost is already going the way of The Sopranos, namely, starting more new plotlines than they are wrapping up. When this happens, details get lost, no pun intended. Lost is obviously a detail oriented show, but when you take the time to notice details, and then you are not rewarded by NOT getting an answer for those little details, you feel bad. I do, anyways. Things like the “voices” that people were hearing, the “monster” smoke-security device, the polar bears, and other details just got forgotten so far. Then again maybe I’m just being impatient. But I’m worried details will get lost on Lost and we’ll be saying four seasons from now “hey, remember the polar bear? what was the DEAL with THAT?? *jerry seinfeld*
4 - Hey-lo. Mai nayme eez Meesta Eko. You mind eef I seet hee-ya? I’ve keelled many men, one more weel knot make a difference. Sleep well. *leaves hatch*
Why Mr. Eko took such a quick interest in the prisoner is beyond me. You really mean to tell me Eko is that shallow that ALL he wanted to do was confess to someone that he used to be violent and now he’s trying to be good? I mean dang he told other people that already, why was it so important to tell the Other dude? That was fishy, man. Way fishy. I have a feeling Eko is up to something, something big. Not really with Dharma, but some kind of mercenary MO.
5) Rouseau! Oh dear lord what a freak. I think Rouseau is the Neo to Dharma’s Matrix. I’m boggled by the Alex/Rouseau connection. It means that Rouseau DEFINATELY knows more than she is telling people about what’s going on on the island. You gonna tell me she knows NOTHING about what her daughter does for work?? I mean dang, she wasnt too far when Alex brought Claire outside to escape and left her there. Rouseau and Eko, they are going to play a HUGE part in the story real soon, I can feel it.

On Tronsta’s post:
1 - I agree with you about the prisoner’s mind trick possibly being out of desperation and that it doesn’t necessarily make him an Other.
2 - About Zeke, Ethan, and the Others. Look again dude, Zeke was the clean shaven guy that was giving ethan orders. Zeke, the Others, and Ethan are all on the same team…
When we refer to zeke, we mean the “This is arr ah-land” guy, the one who abducted Walt.
I believe walt is sitting at a computer in one of the other hatches, with the Others.
3 – I think that they’re doing their best to wrap up questions without ruining the whole mystique. This week is the perfect example. The Others AREN’T savages and are working with Dharma (and greg)!
4 – Eko is the man. He can kill me anytime he wants.
Eko was trying to make peace with the Others by saying what he said.
5) Rouseau needs some wrinkle cream and a date. Stat.

you guys hit all the stops that i wanted to hit. good eye, boys. i’ll just mull some stuff over for myself, at this point. the dharma people are evil mad scientists playing sea-billies. stealing kids to experiment on, left and right. zeke and ethan mentioned a “HE” that it appears they both answer to. could it be the degroots or alvar hanso? henry gale is one of the others. and what’s with his super hearing? maybe it has something to do with the experiments? i do think ethan had some uber toughness serum in him. he was a straight onny-mal. then again maybe gale doesn’t have super hearing. maybe he’s just psychic! it looks like the baby isn’t “sick” sick. good news. did anyone see the plane mobile in the crib? maybe the dharma people are making planes crash on that island, knowing no one can ever find the island. they can run their psycho-testing with impunity. i’m still wondering about walt, i guess they’re running all kinda of psychic tests on him. harnessing his abilities, but to what end? as for gale tricking lock–i like to think locke would know if he was being manipulated, BUT his behavior in the hatch isn’t exactly foreign to his character. his flashbacks paint him kinda weak and childish. “don’t tell me what i can’t do!” so, we’ll see. spams right about eko. he felt the need to confess about killing those two fools, because he feels gale is one of the others. he cut his lil two pronged nubs off to show that he’s let go of that burden. remember when eko was marking trees? well, now he’s cutting them down. we haven’t seen him lately have we? i think he’s building a church. watch. as for the preview: holy crap Sun is preggos! watch it be Michaels kid. or maybe it’s Charlies! he mighta taken a few liberties while sun was knocked out. jk. it could be anyones, maybe even Jin’s! hahaha. good show, guys.

lol yeah man the french broad has a hot/fugly factor going. She’s hot cuz she’s thin, physically tough, and can shot an arrow through a man’s shoulder at 50 paces with accuracy. But that face makes me want to dive head first into a tub of Noxema.
Yeah great point about Eko confessing to that guy. I can totally see that.
Zeke, WHOA I totaly didn’t recongize that guy’s face, though he looked familiar. That explains why he chuckled when Jack said Ethan took Claire in the first place.
Ethan, yeah something was way uber about him physically. He obviously was intelligent, being a doctor of some kind. Then again, Jack had been weakened by being on the island without real food. Ethan no doubt had been sleeping, eating, and pooping normally. So maybe that was enough to give him the edge. Either way, that sucka wasn’t BULLETPROOF! HAH.
I totally agree with the island being an experimental location, and Dharma brought down planes on purpose. It’s too perfect. Though I wonder if Dharma targeted out that plane on purpose. Maybe. Walt and Claire, two people they already showed interest in, were on the plane.
But what about all the sightings of things? Polar bears, horses, Jack’s father, etc. Too weird.

Later when Jack fought ethan on even ground, he put him down like old yeller. Ethan was pwned fair and square. I think ethan didn’t have super strength, just martial arts/fighting knowledge.
But jack is no chump.
