SquatMatch: AT-AT Walkers vs. Striders

Posted February 17, 2006 at 4:37 pm by Spamalot

walker vs strider

We used to post junk like this on the Lan Hackers message board all the time, so I figured it was time we did it here.

Okay–the Striders from Half-Life 2 or the AT-AT Walkers from Star Wars… Who would win and why?

In my opinion, the walkers have a defensive advantage; being metal and non living, while Striders are living creatures that can feel pain. The Striders however, have an offensive advantage since that canon they use pretty much trumps everything.

What do you think?

Mmm. I guess you didn’t note the SCALE! AT-ATs are HUGE and ARMORED. A Striders canon wouldn’t even leave a mark. An AT-AT would take out a little Strider in no time. The only arguement is manueverability.

Hah, yeah that’s true. Tronsta just pointed that out to me. woops.

    Well, that answers that!

Yeah I was about to say. We need to make a seperate section for this, we all have TONS of ideas. Brian’s right, this isn’t a fair fight.

What WOULD be fair would be an AT-ST vs a Strider. My pick? At-ST for sure. AT-ST has superior armor, and is inorganic. A strider has little armor (which we saw by being able to wreck it with a MAX of 8 small RPG’s, which are NOT full on rockets. AT-ST’s require a large coordinated effort to take down in Star Wars Battlegrounds 2, the latest game to show how powerful these things are.

So let’s look at firepower…the strider has 2 weapons, a chin mounted pulse gun, the same that the Resistance smuggled and gave Freeman for his little hoverboat. It’s a powerful gun against organic skins, but against heavy armor?? No go. The warp cannon, though, THAT’s a big gun. It left craters wherever it was shot. But the gun wasn’t fired that much, meaning it probably takes TONS of energy for the Strider to use. Also, it had limited range, just like the pulse gun it had.

The AT-ST has 2 weapons as well, two standard light vehicle blasters and 2 light turbo lasers. I don’t know if you are aware of turbo lasers, but they are the guns that capital ships have. NOt even an X-Wing has turbo lasers. It doesn’t fire as quickly as the blasters, but once fired, they are HUGE range and do massive damage to anything it hits, armored or unarmored. Not to mention the Striders little mele attack would be useless against metal foes.

Winner on weapons, I’d go with the AT-ST for it’s long range abialities.

Movement…both are tight, though the AT-ST has a faster all-out movement rate. But the Strider has better maneauvorability(sp). In urban warfare the Strider would pwn, but in a wider setting, the AT-ST would own. So it would majorly depend on that. But, the AT-ST could swivel 360 degrees on it’s legs, so it wouldn’t need super movement in urban warfare.

Winner on movement, I’d go with AT-ST again for it’s faster top speed and mech-like movement of the head and legs.

Lastely, armor. The Strider’s armor was enough to make it impervious to anything short of RPG’s. The AT-ST can withstand even rockets for a short time as well. I’d say otherall they are close to being similar here, but since the Strider is organic, it will fold quickly to heavy laser fire from an AT-ST. The AT-ST’s armor will deflect much of the pulse gun’s fire from the Strider, and since it can zone the Strider out with longer gun range, the warp gun is all but useless.

    Winner on armor, AT-ST.

So for Tronsta, the AT-ST would totally squat the Strider. Maybe I should make an animated GIF celebratin this event…

you guys are computer artists and scientists, right? WELL, make me a gif of an AT-ST squatting a downed Strider. GET ON IT!

    The AT-ST all the way.
