gamestop bestof2005Gamespot is featuring a great article called the Best and Worst of 2005. They’ve outlined the most important moments in gaming over the last year.

Some gaming moments I remember which made it to the list are:

  • EA’s overtime lawsuit
  • Hot Coffee controversy
  • Next-Gen console announcements
  • Gamestop Pwns EB Games
  • Half Life 2
  • Nintendo loses monopoly on handhelds with PSP launch

One notable event was missing from their list:

Oh well, Maybe next year…

Very impressive read. Tons of information. I had some noteable thoughts on it:

    1) I like the August ‘05 event of Activision being sued by Call of Duty developers for what? Stealing sequel ideas. Sortly after, a new suit was raised by the families of dead WWII vets, seeking royalties for Call of Duty developers stealing their game ideas.

    2) SO many articles on how 360 was totally rushed out the door. People getting broken units, units overheating and freezing, Japan sales very low, boring games at launch (though PGR3 and CoD2 are hot). I’m not pro MS at all, though I love Xbox. But 360 definately seemed rushed, I agree.

    3) Psychonauts gettin’ love! They win 5 awards, 2 of which being “Best Game No One Played” which is so true, even Spammy, who is a self-professed platformer-g33k hasn’t even rented yet, and Best Platformer of the Year. I gotta say this was one of the most interesting and fun games I ever played, and I HATE platformers.

    4) Urban game raspberries! Urban themed games got the worst game genre award, and I’mn glad. So lame. How many times can you be a minority thug swearing for no reason and killing random people?

Fun read. ‘06 really promises to eclipse ‘05 easily, with the release of PS3 and games like Gears of War, Elder Scrolls V, and Starcraft: Ghost. My hands are shakin, my hands are shakin!
