Street Fighter 3 “Squatalities”

Fighting game finishing moves ARE pretty cool. Back in 1992, Mortal Kombat gave birth to the finishing move. Since then, however, the franchise has long gone stagnant in it’s gameplay while simultaneously becoming more ultra-violent. Other 2D fighters like Street Fighter and King of Fighters have continued to grow but still lack the ultimate pwnage of the finishing move.

Street Fighter 3 - 3rd Strike, with cool features like taunts that hit & leaving the winning player in your control for a few seconds after the final blow, allows for some interesting “Custom” finishing moves that I call “Squatalities”.

Being the creative gamers we are, Wiggy and I have developed a number of these Squatalities that exploit these features and leave your oppenent feeling like they got stood up on Prom Night…

Here they are: Our Top 10 Street Fighter 3 “Squatalities”

  1. Randy Savage elbow drop - Oro, Ryu, Others
  2. Our first Squatality actually has a ton of practical usage for winning matches. If you’re opponent is down to their last bit of energy, and you’re facing down, each waiting for the other to make a move… Super jump at them and hit jab! Chances are, they won’t be expecting it and will take the elbow drop to the chin. The best part of this Squatality is that you’ll land right next to your opponent so you can slow motion squat them while they fall. CLASSIC!

  3. Pimp Smack - Ken
  4. Ken is gifted with a taunt that Combos! What a better way to win a match than with a good old fashioned Pimp Smack. When you’re opponent’s about to bite it, dash in and let ‘em have it like they owe you money!

  5. The “Tae-Squat-Pwned!” - Ryu
  6. This Squatality is a Ryu exclusive. As usual, wait until your enemy’s energy is almost gone. Hit him with an EX standing side kick which will send them bouncing off the wall and back towards you! An EX Hurricane kick will vacuum him back in and wipe the floor with him. Truly a beautiful sight when executed by a pro. PWNAGE!

  7. The “World of Pain” - Urien

  8. Urien - Aegis Reflector

Okay, this probably is classified as cheesy but Im a cheesy kind of guy. When you’re opponent is open, throw one Aegis Reflector in front of him and one behind. Watch him do the Harlem Shake! At this point you can either A) Dash in and get a couple extra shots OR B) Machine Gun squat while your victim does his best impersonation of a pinball!
Guess which one I usually pick…

  9. Matrix Parry-Counter - Any Fighter
  10. This one really makes ‘em mad… Just ask Wiggy (It’s my favorite Squatality.) Jump at your opponent and air parry whatever he throws at you. Follow immediately with a strong punch. Go Ahead - Squat. You’ve earned it.

  11. Head Squattage - Akuma
  12. Hey - Ever noticed that Akuma’s taunt looks like he’s dropping a deuce? Yup… After that last blow, dash like crazy to get close to your opponent & taunt to squat his head! If you’re lucky, Akuma will use his similar finishing stance for double squattage!

  13. Leap Frog of DEATH! - Ibuki
  14. You gotta love Capcom for putting this in the game: A leap frog that causes damage. If you’re close to your opponent and they’re about to kick the bucket, hit your taunt to leap frog over them. Not only did you beat them with a bottom tier character, but you also used a Squatality. Trash talk follows…

  15. Wuuuuuuuuuuuuuut! - Ryu
  16. What’s worse than a Shin-Shoryu-Ken that finishes you? One that doesn’t finish you… followed with a super jump - Hurricane Kick that does! It take practice to master but the look on your opponent’s face, or the angry breathing coming over his headset will be well worth it.

  17. The “Here I Come” - Akuma
  18. There’s nothing new here. It’s just the same old Akuma 0wnage; but this move leaves you feeling so Pwnt that we had to give it a spot in the top 10. Shun-Goku-Satsu that!

  19. Fear My Rose (or Basketball) - Dudley, Sean
  20. By far the most infuriating Squatality, the Rose/Basketball throw will definitely make your rival call you every name known to man. There is nothing more demoralizing than getting finished with a long stem rose to the grill or a punk kid’s jump shot. And you thought this was a fighting game…

So what’s your favorite Squatality to use, in SF3 or any other game?

I HATEEEEEEE the Matrix Parry-counter. It’s most enfuriating after I use Alex’s flying knee grab move only to have it parried and countered with a cheesy light-punch for the finish. Soooo annoying!

But I’m sure the “Here I come” is even more aggrivating, eh Spammy? (whispers) I finished him with the RD two times last night. Wuttt wuttt! (throws up the W’s)

  2. Sqlid 5nake Says:

i love love love when i can connect the rose or the jump shot into a combo! only’ve done it once tho. but FINISHING someone with a jump shot or a rose? a ritz bit cheesy cracker sandwich of EVIL!
